This is an important message from Rhode Island Fast Ferry - A Hurricane Warning is currently posted for all of coastal Massachusetts including the island of Martha's Vineyard, the National Weather Service is expecting the eye of Hurricane Earl to pass with in 30 miles of Nantucket.  Due to the forecasted track of Hurricane Earl, we have been forced to cancel ALL DEPARTURES to and from Martha's Vineyard on Friday and Saturday.  We anticipate ferry service to resume sometime on Sunday.

If you have a reservation departing Quonset Point, Rhode Island on Friday or Saturday:

Your ticket will be automatically refunded in full for your round-trip or one-way ticket; you will see the refund applied to your credit card within 3 business days. This will happen automatically, there is no need to call our office for a refund.

If you need to travel to Martha's Vineyard we suggest taking the ferry today; all service is operating on schedule, we have 3 departures to Martha's Vineyard at 8:30 am, 1:00 pm and 5:30 pm.  You will need to re-book a new ferry reservation if you plan on traveling to the island on Thursday, Sunday or Monday.

If you are currently on Martha's Vineyard and have a ferry ticket in your hand for travel to Quonset Point, Rhode Island on Friday or Saturday you can either:

1.  We highly recommend coming off the island today (Thursday) on either the 10:30 am, 3:10 pm or 7:30 pm departures.  Your ticket will be valid on any one of these trips and we have sufficient space to accommodate all ticketed passengers.

2.  You can use your ticket to come off island on Sunday on any one of our trips 10:30 am, 3:10 pm or 7:30 pm.

3.  If you do not travel with us you can mail your ticket to our office along with your contact information and we will issue you a refund for that portion of your ticket.

PLEASE NOTE:  Rhode Island Fast Ferry will not be offering alternative transportation due to the Hurricane Warning; it is expected that the Bridges to Cape Cod will be shut down sometime on Friday and all other ferry services will most likely have service interruptions.

PARKING LOT ACCESS:  Also for anyone that has a vehicle parked in our parking lot it is anticipated that our facility will be shut down for most of if not all of Friday and possibly Saturday depending on the track of Hurricane Earl.  We highly recommend that if you have a vehicle parked in our facility that you make arrangements to pick it up today on Thursday or wait until Sunday.  We cannot guarantee that the parking lot will be open if you plan picking up your car on Friday or Saturday.

Enhanced Safety

Speed is just one element of catamarans. Safety is an even more significant factor that has likewise been enhanced with their arrival. Unlike single-hulled vessels that are powered by propellers, the catamaran's two hulls are driven by water jet engines, similar to those found on most jet skis. These engines are controlled by a central computerized system, which provides a single joystick that manipulates all four jets. This provides the captain of the boat with the fastest emergency response time for any situation.

Why Jets?

The jets also reduce the potential of striking animals below the surface of the water because there are no shafts and propellers underneath the boat. The catamarans also have a shallow draft, meaning that it only needs a few feet of water to stay afloat, and this also reduces the risk of striking a whale or other animal. The water jets and draft contribute to the minimal wake that catamarans leave in their path, providing another advantage over conventional mono-hulled vessels.

If you haven't taken a ride on a high-speed catamaran, we encourage and invite you to come aboard and check out the latest in water travel. We're quite sure, you won't be disappointed!
